Rumors are unofficial claims of various content or games being planned without a corresponding official announcement. Leaks are rumors that ultimately prove to consist entirely of factual information or originate from a verified, official source (via leaked files or unintentionally early announcements). The following is a list of various rumors and leaks centered around Pokkén Tournament.

Title leakEdit

On August 15th, 2013 (five days before Pokkén Tournament was initially teased), The Pokémon Company filed trademarks for Pokkén Tournament and Pokkén Fighters in the United States, the filing for the latter name suggesting that the game's name had not been finalized at the time. In May 2014, the same trademarks were filed in Europe.

Scizor, Empoleon, and Darkrai dataEdit

On June 15th, 2016 (roughly sixteen hours before the release of 1.3), Reddit user BananaMuffinFrenzy claimed that they had datamined the update and provided a list of several files they had discovered, including one clearly labeled with Scizor, a Pokémon from Generation II. Further analysis of the list of files also hinted at the inclusion of Empoleon and Darkrai via their Pokédex numbers. It appears that the files were in fact included in 1.3, but none of the Pokémon were made available in any role alongside the 1.3 update.

Between July and December 2016, Darkrai, Scizor, and Empoleon were revealed for the arcade version of Pokkén Tournament (alongside Croagunk, who also had new files in 1.3), confirming that the data reflected planned additions to the game. However, none of the aforementioned fighters have been added to the Wii U version of the game.
